Pros: Reliable; durable; good balance between power and fuel economy; smooth ride Cons: Weird CD player; fuel economy isn't great; very conservative features and styling The Bottom Line: Great family vehicle, although I do wish the styling was more inspired and the fuel economy was a bit better.
I had to take my Toyota Matrix to the dealership for service, which is bad news (thank goodness for service plans, yeah?) The good news is that the loaner the dealership gave me was 2008 Toyota Highlander base model. That's some crafty planning on their ...

Pros: Comfortable, versatile, plenty of power, headroom, 2nd-row leg room, handling, quiet Cons: Some features difficult to use, mpg, disappointed with the step down from Limited to Sport The Bottom Line: This SUV has just about everything I've ever wanted! I highly recommend it. If not for the bad MPG, it'd be perfect!
So I've been eyeing the Jeep Commander for about a year. I own a Jeep and am happy with it, but right when I finally decided to buy the Commander, we started having lots of problems with my Grand Cherokee. Time to broaden my scope a bit. So, I test drove ...

Pros: Good mileage per gallon
Comfortable and noise free
Toyota quality Cons: Sound system quality
too much cup holder on front seats
The Bottom Line: This is the best car I ever had and I hope I will keep it for the next 10 years.
I bought it a month ago and went in a 3500 km Trip in Quebec province. I had no bad experience with it yet and very satisfied. I compared that SUV with Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Muranno, Buick Enclave and even Hyundai VeraCruz. The Toyota had ...

Pros: Cupholders, middle row seat, paint finish, cargo space, exterior design, inside night lighting. Cons: Driver seat comfort, low MPG, transmission manual mode. The Bottom Line: Overall a great SUV (if you need one) I would skip the AWD (in my mind pointless) and get power leather seats. ALSO base stereo is AWESOME
I just had a 1 day rental of a Base model AWD Highlander. I put on 300 miles and averaged 19.8mpg (I thought I would be getting closer to the EPA 23mpg since I did 95% highway driving). I must say that I was impressed with this SUV. It was HUGE inside ...

Pros: Toyota build quality, reliability Cons: Uninspiring design, bland cheap looking interior The Bottom Line: For the money Toyota is charging, there are plenty of other choices out there.
We have been looking at a replacement for my wife's 2004 Acura MDX. She does not like to drive a large suv but needs a third row. There are now many choices in this category and we have looked at them all. All of the vehicles we looked at are priced ...

Pros: Good Mileage for the size. Very Safe. Versatile Cons: No ipod holder. Doesn't come in red. The Bottom Line: Strongly recommend this vehicle for loved ones who need the safety to lug and like to have a little luxury to boot without polluting the world too much.
I've driven the hybrid limited model in horrible weather and, unfortunately, also demolished the left front end at about 45 MPH. The airbags, steering wheel and knee, went off and I got out without a scratch. It felt like a puff of air had graced my ...

Pros: Solid build/feel
Backup camera
Smooth engine/transmission Cons: Bland style
third row too small
No cargo space behind third row
We test drove this car in Feb 2008. Really liked the backup camera. We drove the "sport model". Cloth seat were very comfortable. Generous room in first and second row. But we were disappointed in the third row size/comfort and there is virtually no cargo space behind the third row when in use. Ride was smooth and confident. Also a long time issue we've had with Toyota is the bland styling, we found highlander to be un-interesting both inside and out. If you aren't into style that much, and would rarely use the third row, or only use it for small children, then this will be an excellent choice. Another solid Toyota.
