From 128 To 256 In 3 minutes!

I just installed more ram on my system, and as this isn't the first time, once again, I found myself marveling at how easy it was. All I did was make sure that I purchased the right model, and 15 minutes later it was in.
OK, first, I read my manual to determine what sort of ram was already installed on my system. It was 16x64 SDRAM PC100. Now, that didn't really mean anything to me, but it doesn't have to. All I had to do was find that same model, and then I was done. However, I did wonder how many slots I had left on my machine, and you should too, so I cracked open the computer. This I highly recommend, because ram is sold in measurements of 4, with 16 being the most popular, and generally the smallest quantity made these days.
You need to understand, that the sum total of your ram only tells half the story. Like, I had 128 megs of ram installed on my computer. they could have given me one piece that was 128 megs, or 2 64 pieces, or 4 32... and so on. You need to make sure you have room, and by that I mean free memory slots, because think about it: if you have 4 memory slots, and all four contain 32 megs each, totaling your 128, when you upgrade, you can't just buy one 32 meg. You'd have no space for a fifth one, and replacing a 32 with a 32 would make no difference. Understand?
Likewise, if you have 3 slots free, because they gave you a 128 meg piece, you have leeway, and can upgrade as much or as little as you want, because you have the space. So look around and decide. If you know you have space, then now is the time to see how easy this procedure really is.
All you do is slide the ram piece into the space, and it snaps in place. That's it. Literally, it's like the easiest upgrade you can do. it snaps in place, you put the hood back on your computer, and then you reboot, and your new ram is instantly counted. Simple, Eh? the biggest problem is making sure you have the right ram, and after that you're done.
Hope that helped.
