Choosing a Laptop as a Desktop Replacement

In the old days, buying a laptop meant sacrificing power for mobility. Today, many laptops sport huge hard drives, fast processors, and excellent video performance. Share your buying advice for the novice user who occasionally wants to take his or her laptop on the road, but mostly needs a powerful workhorse to replace an aging desktop.
