| bekkabunny's Full Review: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror |
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened quite a while back at Disney's MGM Studios. Even though the ride must compete with the ever popular Rock 'n' Roller coaster, this ride shouldn't be missed!
As you walk up the path to enter the hotel, you notice a you have been transported to a 1950's courtyard. You turn to enter the building and in the lobby of the hotel, everything is covered with dust, as this hotel hasn't been used in decades! Whether you are directed left or right by the bellhop doesn't matter, each will bring you to the same place in the end.
The doors open and you are led into a spooky library. There is dust everywhere and the room isn't well lit. Before you know it, you are stuck in the room, and the lights go out as lightning strikes outside. The TV suddenly turns on and you watch a short video much like an episode of the Twilight Zone, but "this time you are the star".
Next, you walk through the basement of the hotel, where all of the pipes and furnaces are located. There are 4 service elevators in operation and you will be placed on one of them. In each elevator, there are three rows on two different sides which hold 3 to 4 people in each section. There are no seatbelts or harnesses, just a bar that rests over your lap. The ride has begun.
You go up a few floors and find yourself looking at the same people who you saw disappearred in the 1950's on the short movie. Special effects turn the room into a pitch black room of stars and you are on your way up again.
Next you stop and the elevator actually moves out of its shaft in the forward direction. You see all sorts of objects suspended in air, like a clock and a giant eyeball. Everything becomes black and its that time!
YOU DROP 13 STORIES DOWN!
YOU'RE BROUGHT UP AGAIN AND YOU DROP!
YOU DROP!
YOU DROP!
All the while, your picture is being taken as you're being dropped again and again!
Soon, the ride is over and you exit into a room where you can see your elevator's picture and purchase the pictures. The prices aren't too bad, it's about 12.00 for the first picture and 9.00 for the second (if you want two). Then you come into an HTH store and upon your exit there, you are back in the reality of being in MGM Studios!
I have been to Disney during every different month of the year and every time I go, there is a "13 minute wait" on the sign, but that translates into a 5 minute wait in my book. I like this ride because it has such a great theme and you really feel like you are inside of the Tower Hotel. The ride is also a lot of fun! I would recommend this ride for anyone who likes a thrilling ride, and is of course, 48 inches tall. If you can't take heights, maybe you should pass this one because just before you are about to drop, a window is open where you can see the entire park, including down!
Survival Tip: Don't bother getting a fast pass for this ride, the wait is NEVER more than 10 minutes!
Give the Tower of Terror a try! It's a lot of fun!
