Clip out or Scan Through?

Jan 22 '01

The Bottom Line The only difference is one is free and the other is purchased, but both get the info out needed.

In the world of magazines there is such a wide variation of what a consumer can read. If they are into skateboarding, they can subscribe to a skateboard magazine. If a consumer wants to read about how to decorate their house, their is numerous magazines regarding this genre. But what if a consumer just wants to catch up on the latest "Hollywood" gossip, or wants news about the latest movies, then the best place to gain this info is generally online.

I know for myself personally, I am both a print reader and an online reader for my reading materials.

There are certain articles that I want to clip out and use off and on, so for this info, I would need a print magazine. Sure on some online magazines there are archives, but the idea of having to hunt that one certain article down gets to be too much work.

I also appreciate the photos that I can pertain only through a print magazine (ex: Country Living). I can put that photo up and go back to it as I progress through the design. Yes, some online magazines do have photos, but to keep returning to that photo online as you are doing the project gets to be a hassle.

I could not go without my "horror" print magazines. I have a box full of Fangoria, MonsterLand, and other similiar mags. Soem of these are collector issues, and are in plastic covers, which eventually I will pass down to my son when he is older. I like to be able to read these magazines, see the pictures up close and able to return to some of my favorite "historical" facts about horror movies/books.

But there is some online "horror" magazines that I venture to faithfully. Gorezone.com gives me the fast knowledge pertaining to new movies and reviews written by "consumers". Cinescape (who I also write for)is my all time favorite online magazine. They are in partner with Fandom.com, and I can gain tons of knowledge about the science fiction, horror, movie updates and what is going on in the world of these two genres constantly, and know I am getting up-to-date info, faster than the print version.
(yes, Cinescape is also in print)

So is there a difference?

Yes and no.

For fast and up to date info a person needs, there is the online versions. But for the collector and return reader there is the print versions.

I wouldn't give neither one up, they both have a place in my world of reading.

Do I favor one over the other?

No, not really.
Again it depends on the genre and what I am reading it for.

Both versions are good, the only difference is one is free and one is purchased.
