Pros: Great course selection; good professors
Cons: Questionable and inconsistent advising; difficulty getting in courses you want
I am currently an English major at the University of Texas at Austin. I have really enjoyed the English courses I have undertaken thus far. UT offers a good variety of classes and a diverse staff of English professors. I have taken four English ...

by LonghornMan , May 04 '00
Pros: A lot of fun; good competition
Cons: Umpires don't want to be there, referees are biased to their buddies
I have participated in a variety of intramural sports while attending college at the University of Texas at Austin including, Softball, Flag Football and swimming. Though I have enjoyed each sport thoroughly, each one has it's own pros and cons.

Good school, too crowded

by halfsweet , Feb 25 '00
Pros: Excellent academic program
Cons: Almost impossible for underclassmen to get into their required classes because of overcrowding
My daughter is a sophomore at UT-Austin (she placed out of her freshman year, so this is actually only her first year there...)

So far, she has not been able to get into a single one of her required classes toward her double major of Spanish...

Excellent Learning at UT - Austin

by dbhoutx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 24 '00
Pros: Great Value in Education
Cons: None
Some time ago, I was there and had to deal with the day to day grind of study, study, and more study. All of that study did pay off when I walked the stage that May, I really felt that I had learned quite a bit while there. In fact, in those four years...

UT Austin: Top Notch University all around

by dbhoutx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 08 '01
Pros: Great University
Cons: None
I should start out by stating the information on enrollment posted by epinions, is not accurate. There are in fact closer to 50K total students at The University of Texas in Austin. That aside, there is so much to say about why and how this is a great...

UT Music School has room to improve

by MTB0001 , Oct 05 '00
Pros: Good job placement record; strong undergraduate curriculum
Cons: High turnover in professors; little graduate funding available
I am a music theory major at UT-Austin. In the 3-1/2 years I've been a grad student, the turnover of professors in my department has been almost 100%. Of the six theory professors who were there when I started my masters (completed in 1999), only one...

Economics Tough but Great Education

by dbhoutx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 02 '00
Pros: One of the Nation's top universities
Cons: None
Granted my major was Economics so you may think; gee it is easy for you. Economics is a tough course for many of the students who attend college. The classes are often larger and less personal. This is difficult for many students, not only at UT -...

How can I say GO BIG ORANGE?

by nakedasajbyrd , Mar 03 '00
Pros: Great programs
Cons: Very large student body
As a current staff member of the University of Texas and a native Nebraskan, I have trouble being for the Burnt Orange. I can say that the students really do support all the teams here at UT.

The University has over 50,000 undergraduate...

Love Affair with UT!

by FeliciaAnn , Jan 29 '00
Pros: Diverse Atomosphere, Quality Education
Cons: None
I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at Austin! The quality of education is extremely high for the low cost of tuition. The institution was founded in 1883 and has a lot of character and tradition. Forty Acres in downtown Austin was...

Rolling in the Roses while Living in LonghornLand

by mht , Oct 09 '05
Pros: resources, research, select programs
Cons: undergraduate size, parking, and a potentially impersonal, get-lost-in-the-crowd experience
Texas may be best known for its outstanding sports program, which was dubbed by Sports Illustrated to be the best in the country using their various criteria. Last year, Texas finished 2nd in the country in the Director's Cup, a measure of the playoff ...

There But For The Will Of God?

by lansky2000 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 19 '00
Pros: Best college in Texas...
Cons: Kinda big, definitely need transportation...
I'm one of those misplaced Austinites who got stranded down the road about 70 miles and was forced to call Suck Antonio home due to the highest real estate rates in Texas found in the Capitol City. Despite that, I made a number of tentative efforts to...

Plenty to do Aside from Study!

by dbhoutx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 13 '00
Pros: Plenty to do
Cons: Can take up a lot of time
The University of Texas at Austin, known to some as a party school, has tons of extracurricular activities for students. They range the full gamut from intramural sports to the Flying Club. Most of the clubs are official organizations as defined by...

Greek vs. Geek

by akieakie , Apr 27 '00
Pros: Business school, Upper-division classes.
Cons: Large school not worried about individuals in lower-division classes.
The University of Texas at Austin is similar to my high school, Westlake High school in the sense that out of Westlake you could have barely learned geometry and still obtained a high school diploma while another student could have learned calculus and...
