Pros: Friendly staff, fabulous food, laid back, rustic atmosphere, great songs, fun and silliness abound Cons: Mosquitos - but you can't avoid those in GA anywhere!
My eight-year-old daughter attended Camp Juliette Low this summer for her first overnight camp experience. We did a great deal of research on camps and chose this one for several reasons. First, it actually seemed like a "real" camp. The atmosphere is ...
Pros: No better outdoor camp out there! Cons: Bring mosquito spray & plenty of sunblock!
In the summer of 1975 my parents carted me off to Camp Juliette Low while I begged and pleaded for them to just leave me at Grandmas. Their decision to send me that summer resulted in some of my favorite girl-hood memories! Looking back on CJL, I'd say...
Pros: Focuses on safety, learning, and tradition. Teaches girls to live and work together. Dedicated staff. Cons: None, but perhaps I'm biased. :)
I'm not sure if staff members are allowed to offer opinions, but I thought I would let you know what I think of CJL. I have been attending camp since I was 7, and now, twelve summers later, I'm on staff as a unit counselor. Camp has been one of (if not ...
Pros: Friendly, lots of activities! Cons: None known
I sent my daughter to this camp from a friend's recommendation. She stayed for two weeks and didn't want to come home. She loved everything about the camp! I only wished I would have sent her back instead of trying a new camp (Camp Dixie in Clayton,...
Pros: Rustic; Good Food; Beautiful Setting; Nice Counselors Cons: Hot water for showers sometimes in short supply
We decided on Juliette Low on our neighbor's recommendation. We watched the video they send out and my then 10 year old thought it looked rustic enough for her (she didn't want to stay in cabins). Also, since my neighbor's daughters were going too, it...
My girls' experience - Mom in Atlanta (J Cooper) by jillcoop ,May 21 '07
Pros: 1 week sessions available, horseback, pool, arts, singing! Cons: tests and beds are somewhat dated, but rustic is nice here
My 2 girls aged 6 and 9 had the time of their life at CJL. They came home singing songs, telling us how to tie knots, showing us how to do lots of Outdoor Living Skills - and explaining exactly how to make a CJL PB&J. We are sending them for three weeks this summer 2007. This is a sweet camp that allows for girls to become confident, independent people - on their journey. It reminded me of the camps we used to go to - it has tents, clean bathrooms, chores for the girls, a beautiful dining hall and a most wonderful lodge. It has a pool, horseback riding, canoeing, a rock wall for older girls, Counselor training and many special programs. There is a gorgeous water hole with rocks at the base of the backside of Lookout Mountain that the girls get to explore too. Send your girls with confidence that they will be fine without mom and dad in the woods with new friends...all the time singing, and laughing.
Pros: the friendships, activities, and safety Cons: i can't think of any
I go to CJL every year. This summer was my 5th summer. We sleep in platform tents. You enjoy making tons of new friends every year. The counselors are nice and helpful. Some camp activities are arts & crafts, swimming, diving, tennis, archery, canoeing, sailing, drama, hiking, outdoor living skills, sewing, project adventure, and horseback. The four units are (from youngest to oldest) Romany, Oakledge, Sherwood, and Glen. The camp was founded by Juliette Gordon Low as a girl scout camp, but it is now a privately run camp. Go to http://www.cjl.org/ to learn more. It is a beautiful camp on Lookout Mountain in Cloudland, GA.
