| i_culookn's Full Review: Beverly Hills 90210 |
I know that some of you might be totally disappointed in me since this is one of my all~time favorite shows. Beverly Hills 90210 is in its 10th and final season. Unfortunately all great things must come to an end. The show started with the basic plot of the Walsh’s moving from Minnesota to Beverly Hills, California. Jim and Cindy are the parents of Brenda and Brandon. Brenda and Brandon also happen to be fraternal twins. The show started out focusing on Brenda and Brandon and how they had to fit into the California ritzy lifestyle so to speak. They had come from snow to now beaches with hot guys and girls. Beverly Hills is more self centered and materialistic than what they had been used to back in Minnesota. The original cast began with Donna Martin, Kelly Taylor, Dylan McKay, Steve Sanders, the Walsh’s, and David Silver.
The show has had several villains such as Valerie Malone, Gina Kincaid, and Brenda Walsh. My personal favorite was Miss Valerie Malone. I think she would have to be the winner hands down. Gina runs a close second with Brenda trailing behind.
Andrea Zuckerman was also a favorite of the show for a couple years. She was in love with Brandon, but as usual things didn’t work out. Brenda and Dylan were instant lovers. Dylan was the boy that your dad always warned you about. He was the James Dean look-alike with that certain sass involved. He was always into trouble, drugs, sex, and riding his motorcycle. He was always in love with Miss Kelly Taylor though. Kelly always ran back to Dylan when she needed comfort after a breakup. They were the odd couple I guess you would say. In the last few episodes Dylan is supposed to ask Kelly for another chance to marry her and start over again. Matt which is Kelly’s current fiancé’ is ready to move to Seattle, but Dylan has other plans of his own.
Steve Sanders is the playboy from hell. He thinks he is the gift to every woman. He partied his college years away sleeping with every woman that was in his sight. Within the last few years Steve settled down with Miss Janet Sosna and became a father. He was the child star of and an actress whom he found out recently that his mother is gay. He accepts it after time and deals with the issues that his life isn’t perfect after all.
Donna Martin and David Silver have been dating off and on for the most part of this show. They are also an unlikely couple. Donna owns her own fashion boutique where she designs her own clothes. David on the other hand is a music dj for a radio station. Noah Hunter is a character that was brought into the show a couple years ago to try and win Donna’s heart. They dated for a while but Noah just can’t kick his alcohol addiction and he has problems dealing with his past. Noah has also been around the block with a few of the characters on the show such as Miss Gina Kincaid and Miss Valerie.
I have watched the show from the year it debuted, as the students were sophomores in high school and have watched them graduate college. This show I relate to so much because it was so much like my high school and how the people were. I too partied too much the first years of my college and I still tend to try and outdo the Jones’ next door so to speak.
The topics in the shows all dealt with real issues teens and young adults have to deal with. A lot of people have the misconception that the show is about snotty teens and partying. That couldn’t be further from the truth. No matter whom you are you have issues and problems that have to be dealt with. You will have a death in the family, you will have best friends get married, maybe even your best friends sleep with your significant other. See the topics aren’t far fetched at all. Suicides were a big topic on this show along with drug abuse awareness to teen pregnancy.
Aaron Spelling the creator of this show has done an excellent job. I wish the characters the best in whatever they pursue. I will certainly miss my 90210 every Wednesday night on FOX. I am sure I will find some new show to fill my void that this show will leave when it last airs in just a few more weeks. It has been an enjoyable show watching the characters finally grow up and have responsibility in the real world. I often feel like I am a character in the story line because I relate so much with them.
The character I will miss the most would have to be Dylan, which is played by Luke Perry. And ladies he may have some problems but he is the rebel that doesn’t take the heat from anyone, but yet he can turn every woman’s head.
