I was a happy owner of an AV-420 until yesterday. It didn't turn on since then. I was extremely careful and never used the device in a improper way so I guess it happened because of poor construction.

My advice is: If you're amazed by all those features, don't be. Wait a bit more. I have heard of problems in all kind of media players, from iPod to Creative Zen, so it's obvious that the producers are so dedicated to have profit that they're not spending enough time to improve durability.

Received the product as a Xmas present. Enjoyed immensely for 3 months until hard drive started to act erratically, and finally crashed, even though I had taken extreme steps to protect it. Now my opinion of the product has changed from that of indispensable tool, to costly toy.

I had problems as soon as I opened the box. The player keeps freezing during play, data becomes corrupt, the sound is of poor quality, and advertising up to 20 movies storage space is not possible. The most I could ever get on my player was 5, and that was when the playback quality was set on low. I tried to have it serviced just 2 months into a 1 year "warranty" and they said it was going to cost me $150.00 to repair. If you purchase this product, you will be sorry!

I bought my archos av420 about 2 months ago for £400 and it has been one of the best purchases i have made in years. i considered other PVP's before this one and finally chose this one because of its small speaker built in which is a very useful feature and also the ability to record things from my television in a similar way to a DVD recorder. The archos is outstanding, its battery life is fantastic, i watched 2 full films and listened to music for half an hour before the battery ran out on holiday. Also the built quality is excellent. A couple of weeks ago i was running for a bus and it fell out of my pocket, smashed off the floor several times and lay to a rest, when i examined it, one of the small rubber corners had came out of place and there was a slight scratch on the top that was hard to see. I popped the corner back in and it was fine. This product is 10/10, only downfall is its size, but what do you expect with the features it has.
