Excellent sport-tourer

by tbuse , Apr 17 '01
Pros: Good looking, great acceleration, excellent handling, good price
Cons: Bars too low, doesn't hold resale value
I was looking for a bike that would get up on the road and cover some serious miles, but that would also be fun. i found it in the 2000 Triumph Trophy 900. This bike was made to travel. Weighing less than 500 pounds, it has 97 bhp, with 61 foot pounds...

Triumph Trophy 900 review

by hey_cosmo , Feb 11 '00
Pros: style, comfort, handling
Cons: lack of accesories from aftermarket
I started riding with Triumph, but the earlier ones were somewhat in need of tinkering. Not so with the new 'Hinckley' Triumphs. I purchased the bike new in '97, and have ridden it over 15,000 miles now. I am satisfied in almost every way with the bike....

O.K. I really want to like this bike...

by jdos2 , Nov 19 '01
Pros: Smooth, fast, quick, good wind protection, quiet, roomy, comfy
Cons: Extraordinary breakage rate, known maintenance issues that leave the unwary stopped on the freeway
I wanted a great sport tourer to replace my somewhat small CBR1100XXw- a bike that I rode 16,000 in a year- a bike that I worked hard on finding something about it to love. I couldn't find it- the bike was very competent and very, very fast but I wanted...

2000 Trophy 900: Excellent Jack of all Trades

by chaughn , Nov 01 '05
Pros: Superb engine and fairing. Quality of finish. Adjustable rear shock. Servicing costs. Value plus.
Cons: The seat! Top heavy. Cost of genuine top box. Easily damaged front blinkers.
In 2004 I traded a bulletproof R80RT in on a very low mileage 2000 900 Trophy. I too tested all the BMW range and while lovely, for the price had their short comings, I also considered the Yamaha FJR1300 and Honda ST1300. I was very close to purchasing ...

Excellent reliable bike

by trophy1200 , Dec 17 '03
Pros: Smoothness, power, comfort, reliability, looks
Cons: Unavailability
Guess it's time I submitted a review for the Trophy1200 in light of my e-pinion nick... I purchased my 2001 Trophy 1200 new in July of '02. I rode most of the BMW line prior to my purchase and decided on the Trophy after the second demo ride based ...

Commuting machine

by sheepgnome , Dec 07 '00
Pros: Comfort, weather protection, reliable, steady as a rock
Cons: Slightly heavy, no shaft drive, fuel consumption
I moved over 50 miles from my job and needed to commute daily, my T509 Speed triple was not the machine for the job, great fun but no weather protection. The Trophy 1200 is a beautiful but slightly heavy beast which has a lot to offer the long distance...

1300 Miles in 2 Days

by waleao , Apr 07 '02
Pros: The easiest riding motorcycle in the sport tour class
Cons: The only fault is the front seat is not designed for comfort
I purchased my new 2001 Trophy 1200 over the internet, without ever riding it, 8 weeks ago. After completing a job overseas I was dropped off in Chicago to pick up my "Dream Cycle" 6 weeks after I bought it. The plan was to drive to Houston, TX in as...

Steve Walker

by swalkerforever , Apr 24 '07
Pros: it stands out from the crowd, good interstate bike that's at home on country roads.
Cons: distance between fill ups is shorter than expected, it seems a little top heavy.
I jumped from a cruiser to the sport touring Trophy 1200 about 3 years ago, and have been 2 up from Bar Harbor Maine to Key West. 26000 nearly trouble free miles,, lost the front brake pad out of the right caliper on the way from work, walked the area ...

Sexiest tourer out there!
by scamp_1968 ,Feb 23 '05
Pros: 97 horses, plenty luggage space, beautiful to behold, sport bike handling, reliable.
Cons: Needs bigger screen, idles like a tractor (normal), saddle is tall, difficult in car parks.
It's not the perfect bike, but it's a bloody good start! My 96 Trophy recently took us(2up)around the 3500km south east Aussie coast without incident (returning Adelaide - Sydney via Broken Hill). Fully laden we were about 400kg - never once did I consider the bike under powered, in fact it is scary once wound up. Probably one of the major shortcomings is the windscreen which is adequate for me at 5'9" in front but buffets the passenger relentlessly at any speed over 100kph. The ride is comfy and seating (after minor adjustment) enables 6-8 hour days in the saddle without much complaint. It's a bit thirsty at about 7.5L/100km, but then again it works hard for it's drinks! If you're prepared to learn how to ride well then this bike will not disappoint!
