Width of tire tread is much narrower than normal

by brianoobrien , Jan 09 '05
Pros: Inexpensive; ratings represent decent value
Cons: Tread width is narrower than comparably-sized tires
I purchased a single one of these Mohave R/S tires, sized 185/70R x 14, as a temporary replacement until I could get the tire I wanted (and the temporary one would become a decent spare). When I got home I noticed that the width of the tire tread seemed ...

Defective, DANGEROUS tires
by johnkickcan ,Jan 23 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Dangerous; you'll worry every minute when driving; you'll know you've flushed money down the toilet
I bought Mohaves for my 2001 Toyota Corolla, babied them and I STILL had a complete BLOWOUT after less than 2,000 miles, going at around 30 mph on a side road! These tires are DANGEROUS! Discount Tire Center NEEDS TO BE SUED to get them from selling these defective entry-level tires.

I replaced these with pricey BF Goodrich Precept Touring Tires sold at Discount Tire Center, which they assured me were the best tires they had for my car's fit, for over 2 and one-half times the cost, and I am now horrified to read that these tires get only average ratings at best. NEVER, EVER SHOP at Discount Tire Centers! I know I won't.

No problems experienced on 92 Pathfinder 2WD
by wcmiller ,May 25 '04
Pros: Price for a 360 AB tire, Can be used on a light SUV
Cons: Not for off-road or large SUV
I live in Tucson and commute about 50-60 miles/day;I've had these tires for over two years and have not had any problems (no flats, no blowout). They have kept the air fairly well compared to my previous more expensive tires. Also, I do not notice any handling problems or any difference in driving in the city or highway compared to my previous tires. I estimate these tires will last me another 3 years. I'm very satisfied with these tires. Besides, why would I buy a $100 tire if normal daily driving does not require it?

2 blow outs in 2 hours
by smasherbeast ,Apr 30 '05
Pros: NONE It's a trick
Cons: THEY WILL GET YOU KILLED
I have had a set of these tires for 13 months.. 3 days ago i had two blow outs on the freeway within 2 hours of each other. I bought the tires from America's Tire Co. and when i took the first blow out in they acted like it was nothing out of the ordinary.. they are about to find out about the second blow out.. CHP can verify it.. not to mention the absolutely SHREDED tired on my ruined rim :(

And American Tire Company fraudulently installed these tires on my truck.. they changed my order after i paid and never informed me until i had the first blow out. They even tried to make me pay 52.00 to replace the obviously defective tire.

I am getting ready to call them and work out a plan for them to replace the blow tire and rim.. as well as the 2 defective tires that are on the passenger front and rear. I really hope they dont hassle me about this. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING ON THESE TIRES

Get what you pay for
by mrmustang ,Sep 05 '03
Pros: Cheap.
Cons: Prone to blow out
I work in a tire shop and we see these tires come in all the time. 95% of the time, they come in for a blowout. Safe? I don't think so.

Blow Out
by andrewdavila ,Mar 24 '04
Pros: None
Cons: Blow out easily, heat prone.
I suffered a blow out on the RR tire with only 5,000 miles on the tire. They suck, do not buy these tires. They are a cheap replacement.

Great Tires, Great Price
by tracker104 ,Nov 23 '05
Pros: Good Wear and Good Price
Cons: Would like a wider tread pattern
I have owned two sets of these tires, the first with 80,000 miles and no problems. Good all around traction and stopping. I have taken many long trips with no heat problems as well, would recommend these tires for cars and light suv's.

Not recommended for highway driving
by sagwani ,Dec 22 '03
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Tire can't take heat
The tires are cheap and will probably survive city driving. The tread separated on a stretch of prolonged highway driving. Luckily no one was hurt.

Blow out on highway luckily no one killed
by babcia ,Sep 11 '06
Pros: cheap
Cons: blow out
My wife bought four new Mohave tires in March 2005 for our Chevy Prizm. We put on those tires approximately 12,000 miles. This summer, my daughter was driving on a highway in Nebraska with 70 mph. Suddenly the car was thrown across the highway, beyond the shoulder and span. They found themselves on the meadow. They found flat right rear tire. Luckily there was no cars on a highway. Otherwise they would be killed. We have been driving in this country for 23 years and it never happened to us with other brand tires.
