I left out on a 500 mile vacation with a 28ft Prowler 5th wheel camper. The camper had a set of Carlisle ST225/75 R15 tires on it that were manufactured year 2000. Tires looked good on the outside. Pressure was a little lower than 65lbs recommended. I ...
Pros: Sounds like a good American tire company Cons: Deservedly terrible reputation
I went to a local tire dealer and asked for a premium set of tires for my tandem axle boat trailer. I was sold four Carlisle ST205/75R14 tires. On a recent trip out west, the right rear tire blew out. I initially attributed this failure to debris kicke ...
Pros: There is nothing good about these tires! Cons: These tires are going kill someone yet.
We bought our travel trailer new from a dealer. It came with Carlisle tires. Before leaving home on our first trip, I checked the air in all tires and everything was good to go. We were on the road one hour when we got our first blow out. Which ripped ...
Pros: Carlisle Customer Service very responsive Cons: Bad Tires Should Have All Been Recalled !
I purchased a used Starcraft 21 foot trailer in December 2005. Checked tires they looked new. My first blow out occured in about 15 miles. Ripped apart the inner wheel well. My first mistake - replaced with another ST/175/80R/13 Carlisle tire. Used that ...
Pros: I can't think of anything good to say about this product line. Caution should observed. Cons: At least we did not lose control and have serious damage. We were very lucky.
We purchased a Keystone Raptor (triple axle) in March 2007. The tires that were on the trailer were Carlisle 4 ply ST225/75D15 Sport Trail. These tires should not be allowed on the market let alone put on any type of recreational vehicle. My husband ...
Pros: There are no pros using these tires. STAY AWAY FROM CARLISLE!!! Cons: I wasted more than half a day on a trip
I purchased a 2004 Forest River Flagstaff here on Long Island. On a trip I blew one Carlisle ST 205-75 R14 tire. When I brought it to a tire center in Poughkepsie (which was 45 minutes away from where I was camping) the manager of the tire center ...
Pros: Carlisle did replace the 3rd blowout for free. Cons: I had to pay for mount and balance for my free tire. They are dangerous.
I purchased a Road Master Tow Dolly along with a spare tire in 2003. It came with 3 Carlisle ST215/75R14 Radial ST tires. I took a 7500 mile trip that year and a 4500 mile trip in 2004. In 2005, I had only 12,000 miles on the tires and noticed a bulge ...
Pros: NONE!! Cons: These tires are dangerous and should be pulled from the market!!
We have a 25' travel trailer that came equipped with Carlisle tires as standard equipment. In less than two years, we have had three blowouts (all on the interstate, of course). The tires were inflated to the recommended pressure, and the trailer weight ...
Pros: 1100 miles in 24 hrs towing a 22' boat & 7,000 lb. trailer no problems Cons: enough tread, but dry rot on sidewalls. Carlisle not making 'em like they used to
After reading all your horror stories, I think I must be the luckiest man on the planet. I bought my boat and trailer used, in May 2003. The trailer was equipped w/4 Carlisle ST205/75R tires which were the originals from 1997. I towed the boat home to NYC from Daytona, Florida in about 24 hrs.w/no
problems, staying at or below 55 mph. The tires are still on the trailer w/plenty of tread left, but some dry rot on the sidewalls, which is why I started searching online for replacements. If Carlisle tires are in fact manufactured by Goodyear, as stated in a review above, why would someone replace them w/more lousy Goodyears? I guess I'll start looking at other manufacturers & more reviews.
Serious issue with these tires by ctkid ,Feb 06 '07
Pros: NONE Cons: Think twice before you take a trip with these on your trailer
In 2002 I took delivery of a new Lund 2025 Pro V with a 200 Yamaha 4 stroke. Also bought a new Eagle Galvanized trailer. The first set of carslile tires seemed to work well throuh first 8,000 miles. Replaced them with 4 new ones because of uneven tread wear and balancing issues. The 4 new tires all blew out within the first 600 miles of use. Pressure was at 50lbs. These were spec replacement tires. I called Eagle and the Eagle guy told me he will not install Carlisle tires any longer on new trailers sold. I had to replace along the trip via Canadian Tire selling me some of what they had in stock. It made our travel & trip a real nightmare. I want to replace these tires with even higher rated and better tires. I was thinking of Goodyears, but am considering all options. Any suggestions out there?
Pros: Carlisle provided replacement tires Cons: Carlisle did not cover mounting and balancing cost. Wasted two vacation days correcting tire issues!
I have a 2003 Dutchman 29 ft travel trailer. In 2004, I lost two tires in one trip. The first had a steel belt separation causing a large balloon on side of tire. The second occurred on the trip home, late in the evening, on a large interstate. Not fun. Carlisle sent me 5 new tires. In 2005, I lost three tires in the same trip. The first one blew out at 6:00 AM Sunday morning on the way to vacation. The second one blew out 15 miles after I changed the first. I had to leave the trailer on the side of the interstate and spend the next 6 hours looking for tires and then someone to mount them. On the trip home the last remaining original tire had a steel belt separation. Carlisle again offered new tires. I would rather have tires I could feel confident about rather than continually replacing tires!
2 blowouts, 1 flat, 1 severely damaged in 3 days by roadsweetroad ,Aug 14 '05
Pros: They're cheap. Cons: They're dangerous.
Don't trust your life and property to these tires. Even Carlisle says (on their website) that the heat buildup from normal highway speeds is too much for them. I had two blowouts that did significant damage to my fifth-wheel trailer; the next day I had a flat, and when I changed the last Carlisle, it had a broken belt and would have blown before long. All of these happened within three days of travel, only five months from when I picked the trailer up from the dealer.
Pros: Makes a good playground swing Cons: Just try to find a good word about Carlisle..there are none!
Carlisles are absolutely horrible. Check the internet and you will only find one complaint after another. We have blown 4 of the original 5 Carlisle tires on our trailer in 5000 miles. Proper inflation, good road, etc. Everyone has the same problem. If you have them, get rid of 'em! Carlisle seems to be owned by Goodyear, who has had to cover damage caused to trailers by blown Carlisles. Check it out...get something else
Stay away from this tire by bartman111 ,Feb 02 '06
Pros: None Cons: Just plain bad and dangerous
Every year we have three boats head for Lake Erie for a week
of walleye fishing in July.We all watch our tire pressure and tread wear on our tires.I just wanted to let people know
in the last two years we have blown seven Carlisle trailer tires, all less than three years old. Steer clear of these tires, if you do have them.... get rid of them.
Now know it's probably not the trailer by mk3church ,May 30 '07
Pros: Price Cons: Dangerous
The last two trips out with our little pop-up camper have resulted in one trailer tire completely coming apart each time.(Luckily nothing serious happened) Until reading these messages I would have thought it was something to do with the camper but now I know better.
Does anyone have a good replacement they can recommend?
