The Samsung CLP-300 Color Laser: A Viable Alternative to Ink-Jet Printing

by gadgetmaestro , Mar 02 '07
Pros: Small size for a color laser, quiet operation, good color graphics, low price, low cost-per-page
Cons: Not a good choice for photo printing; unacceptable text quality with Win98
Six weeks ago, I found myself standing in the middle of Staples holding YET another $75 worth of ink-jet cartridges in my hand. Several weeks before, I had started a new job which required me to do a modest but significant amount of printing at ...

Affordable color laser in a good size

by semmel , Jun 09 '07
Pros: Very affordable, small, fairly quiet, easy to change toner (front access)
Cons: Needs waste toner cartridges, paper drawer sticks out 2", not photo quality, not the fastest
When looking for good sales items in a store that was about to close forever I noticed this printer stacked on the floor. I looked at the price and couldn't believe it - under $300. I remember the old days when you would pay multiple thousands of ...

I returned mine to Micro Center

by dlocksmith , Aug 01 '07
Pros: inexpensive, small can fit on desktop, nice styling
Cons: loud clicking, slow warm up and color printing, no single sheet or envelope slot
I recently purchased and returned my Samsung color laser printer because it did not meet my expectations. I thought it was really cool because of it's size and easy to replace toner cartridges but this unit missed the mark. It is really noisy even though ...

Great Budget Color Laser Printer

by mrhands00 , Nov 01 '07
Pros: Compact size, cheap toner (compared to other laser models), crisp printouts, great upgrade from inkjet
Cons: Small papertray, has a "hot" smell, may not do well with photos (never tried)
I was upgrading my home office and have always wanted a laser printer. In my research I came across the Samsung CLP300. I though "wow I can get a color laser printer for under $200?" I was hesitant because I know that in most cases you get what you pay ...

Do not buy this printer

by wilemeeena , Nov 30 '07
Pros: Affordable price
Cons: Unimpressive color printing; terrible service policy; long warm-up; dirty print outs;
Based on my experience, Samsung may make good LCD TVs but this does not hold true for printers. I bought the Samsung CLP-300 and just a day after black specks (resembling the Cisco logo) started to appear across the whole left side of the paper. I ...

Not recommended

by richardpaul , May 04 '08
Pros: Price, compact size
Cons: Could not even print one page...
I decided a few days ago to replace my two-year-old Epson colour inkjet printer with a colour laser model. It was time to replace the black and one of the colour cartridges anyways, even though they were replaced just a few months ago, and I was finding ...

Perspective from a Copier Tech
by jeffreyclay9 ,Nov 26 '08
Pros: Low initial cost
Good Image quality
Cons: Color saturation less than desired (but adjustable)
I work on Konica Minolta Office copiers for a living. They blow away the competition with 8 bit color and excellent output so you might ask why would I purchase a refurbed 4 bit Samsung? I have a host of printers at home, each with their specific duty and I wanted something for casual color jobs with more permanence than an inkjet. I found it on ebay for $90 and I love it! It has a small footprint and the speed is equal to the color inkjets I use. The registration is very sharp but the color saturation is less than I would like. The driver allows for custom adjustments for saturation, contrast and individual color balances as well as ICM profiles so I may be able to tune it for really great output. Pictures look nice but this is not what I would consider a photo printer. I'll be using it for pamphlets, business cards and other common uses where I want a permanent image. For typical family use I see no reason why this wouldn't be a great selection. The toner refills I see online look reasonable ($35 for a set)

Overpriced paperweight
by pjklepacki ,Sep 21 '07
Pros: Not a single thing (well, it does look nice)
Cons: Poor print quality, inept/nonexistent customer service
I bought this printer nearly a month ago - it has yet to function properly. I've run round and round with their "service" department, replacing parts, waiting for parts, still not getting a new printer.....

If I sound bitter, it's because I'm on hold with them right now - and have been for OVER AN HOUR!

Their customer service is terrible - they don't even work weekends - and seem reluctant to honor their warranty without making one jump through eight million hoops. Don't even waste your time - on this or any other Samsung product. After all, if you can't get someone in service to pick up after waiting over an hour, what does that REALLY say about the quality of their product?

Good Value for a Home Printer
by jimbo87 ,Jun 19 '08
Pros: Small form factor, crisp text, low cost, no more false empty cartridges.
Cons: Slow, initially smelly, limited paper capacity (second tray option would have been nice)
Find yourself replacing inkjet cartridges because the printheads have dried out or timed out and yet you can see or feel that there is plenty of ink in the cartridge. If so, then consider this printer at $250 I thought it was a decent buy, but lately I have seen on sale for $100 after rebates. Some have commented on the smell it emits and while I too experienced a "hot" smell, I have come to attribute the smell to the then newness of the machine as it has since dissipated. If you a seeking a speed demon this certainly not the machine for you. But, if you are looking for a well built printer with decent graphics that you need not worry about printheads drying out on then the CLP-300 is a value at $250 and a bargain at $100.

Not worth the plastic it's made from
by qenginc ,Aug 27 '08
Pros: Absolutely None
Cons: After 6 months, I might get it replaced
Ordered from Office Max at the end of December. Took 3 months to get. Printed about 50 pages and print started to fade on left side of page. It was a nightmare getting someone at Samsung, (forget getting a response to Emails). Called 800-SAMSUNG. Samsung sent a entire drum unit which I replaced and got 10-20 pages before print on left side vanished again. Called the 800-SAMSUNG number again (only way to get a response), They sent out a contract service rep who replaced something else. Same thing! Service rep said she did all she could do. Sent more Emails, no response. Bought a new toner cartridge at $45, no change. I have had several Samsung products in the past but never again. I've been on the phone with Samsung for over an hour now and they are replacing my CLP-300 with a CLP-315. Might be some hope yet to get a printer that works. Don't give up if you bought one of these printers. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
