a must for college students
by dannycas ,Oct 21 '06
Pros: big screen, good sound, color, vision. sturdy, lots of features, fast, useful Cons: nothing that i can thiink of.. honostly a great laptop
im am currently a freshman college student who owns a dell inspiron 1505. i was told that a laptop was vital for my success in school, so i called dell. i was looking first at the basic notebook but the man on the phone told me that i would need more power and storage space, so he recommended the 1505, and woww how he knew what he was talking about. i absolutly love this computer. i upgraded it to its fullest nd got a ridiculous amoutn of storage space, more then my family computer has. the speed is also rearkable, at 1 gb. i use it for all my lecture notes and my interactive school notes. the tru life screen is a must, it vibrant colors cannot be done without. id now rather wathc my dvds on my 15.4 inch laptob then on my 47 inch tv, thats how much i love the clear and vivid picture and sound. with this laptop, u can record and burn dvds, cds, and music. it is the ultimate entertainment notebook for a decent price( i got mine for aroud $1100)

If you're lucky...
by emlawi ,Jun 27 '07
Pros: sleek look, fast, great when it works Cons: infuriating customer service, not dependable
When I first got my laptop I absolutely loved it. No problems at all. Within a month, my "startup was corrupt" and all attempts at customer service were absolutely futile. Everyone knows Dell customer service is awful. Luckily I was able to fix that problem myself by doing a system restore. And now, less than six months after buying my laptop, Windows vista has completely failed. My computer has to be restored to factory condition and I have now lost ALL my music, documents, everything. A lot of people like their Dells, but personally I don't think it's worth the constant issues and complete lack of customer service. Go with a HP or Mac.

Hardware Quality Lacking
by tmb05 ,Apr 23 '08
Pros: Nothing comes to mind. Cons: Early Hardware failures. Tech support based in India with hard to understand accents.
I've owned the Dell E1505 for 18 months and the Korean made Fujitsu hard drive just went bad. Dell tech support first said it was the memory so I purchased $100 of new memory but that didn't fix the problem. Finally, the computer gave a bad disk drive error and wouldn't boot up. A $110 hard drive fixed the problem except by installing a new hard drive, you lose all the software that came with the computer and are left with basically windows. Before that, the battery died just out of warranty (1 Yr). Seems like Dell is installing cheap components and due to the problems I've experienced with a relatively new computer and one that wasn't cheap ($1650) I can no longer recommend Dell computers and will be looking to another brand with my next purchase. If you buy a Dell, get the maximum extended warranty you can afford.

Great performance-minded laptop
by Fartherfromgod ,May 23 '06
Pros: Compact, stylish case. Great performer. Dell always runs great deals. Cons: No PC Card Slot
When I was looking for a laptop, I had very specific needs that seemed hard for nearly every manufacturer to meet. I was looking for a strong performers (a so-called desktop replacement) but I didn't want one of those giant 17" eight-pounders.
Only Dell sold smaller laptop with the performance requirements I had set. The Dell E1505 came in a small size with a 15.4" screen yet could be affordably be configured as I wanted it:
Intel Dual Core 1.83GHZ processor
1 GB RAM
Intel Integrated Graphics
Centrino A/B/G Wireless
DVD Writer
I've had the laptop now for about three weeks (assembly and shipping were lightning fast) and it has performed wonderfully. I haven't had any problems with quality or performance. It is lightening fast, the display is bright and brilliant (even with power setting enabled to preserve battery life).
My only objection is the amount of pre-installed trial software that it came with. All of this must be uninstalled someday when it expires.

Terrible
by chef919 ,Aug 09 '07
Pros: When it works it runs pretty smoothly actually. Unfortunately it's not very often. Cons: Their customer service is non existant. Completely unreliable.
I bought this computer about a year ago. It has broken down four times and Dell has refused to honor the warranty each time. To make it worse none of the major repair centers (Circuit City, etc) will work on Dell's so you have to take it to an independant technician. It usually takes a good month to get the parts. Once Dell had my computer for three months and finally shipped it back unrepaired. They love to pull a bait and switch by telling you the warranty will cover the repair then when they have your computer in their repair depot they demand a couple hundred bucks to fix it. Finally I decided to cut my losses and just buy a new computer. this time I went with a different company. I will never again buy a Dell.

Battery is BAD,
by dukee ,Sep 04 '08
Pros: The machine itself is nice, no complaints. Easy. Cons: EXTREMELY POOR BATTERY and power cord and replacement is very expensive.
I've had this computer a year and half -- the computer itself is good, but the battery goes quickly (even if you don't use it on battery), and the power cord disintegrates (check the reviews on Dell's website). etc.

Dell E1505 Wireless Problem
by michaeld218 ,Jul 14 '06
Pros: Other then wireless card he E1505 is a great product. Cons: Dell should suspend providing Intel's 3945A-B-G card until they work out the problems.
Great machine. The worst wireless. Intel 3945A-B-G card is causing no connection on boot and/or dropped connection while operating.. Dell's wireless forum is filled with the same complaints. I just got a replacement card from Dell and if it does the same Dell will either give me another brand card or I will return my computer to Dell

Very Disappointed
by mwells88 ,May 08 '07
Pros: Good screen, would be a nice machine if not for cons Cons: Inferior hardware, dell support, not as advertised
This computer was defective the day I got it. It makes screeching noises at me at random times, and it has a high pitched whine like a cheap TV. The hard drive also makes nasty sounds every now and again.
The ATI x1400 graphics card is advertised in gaming magazines, but it will not run titles like Oblivion, and driver support is nil from ATI. The Omega driver helped.
Support is nearly useless. I get a different person every time who tell me to do the same things over and over again. I have paid for the maximum warranty and support from Dell, and have recieved nothing but these junk emails.
I had been a big fan of Dell before this machine. My past two computers, a desktop and laptop were both from dell, and I was happy with them. This machine, however, is not worth the money, and I will be avoiding Dell in the future if possible.
