Firestone Destination LE
by ncpoppie ,Oct 31 '08
Pros: Great handling, tread life and very low noise Cons: None that I have experienced
Firestone got a really bad rap over the Ford Explorer problem. I had a 91 Explorer and had four sets of OEM Firestone tires over the life of the vehicle and NEVER had a problem. But I always kept the tire pressure up and rotated often.
Now I have an 2004 Ford 4X V6 Escape. The OEM tires lasted under 25K but I replaced with the Firestone Destination LE and feel these are absolutely the best tire I've ever had on an SUV. This set is approaching 60K miles w/o a single problem and probably another 5K of tread life left. I'm having them replaced today with another set. Just a terrific tire and a great value.

Great Tire for Me
by kwahyttam ,May 18 '08
Pros: . Cons: .
I bought a used 2003 Ford Escape 4x4 w/ 47,000 miles, and it had brand new Destination LE tires on it. It now has 73,000 miles and the tires still have 8/32" tread left. They are not performance tires nor offroad tires. I have had it offroad about 6X, did great in dry dirt and sand. Mud is a no-go. I do drive it spirited, as in tire squealing spirited, on occasion and they do fine. I don't find them overly loud or obnoxious. There is nothing fancy about them , and they are relatively cheap to replace. Just like any tire, keep them inflated properly, and they won't shred on the highway ( and that goes for any tire, not just Firestone).

Horrible Tread Life
by cardiacnp ,Feb 19 '06
Pros: Smooth ride and low noise. Okay traction with wet roads. Cons: Everything else. Cost, tread life.
I bought these tires for my 2002 Toyota Tundra Limited 2WD (265/70R16) in Dec 04 and am already having to replace them because of extremely poor tread life. I was able to get about 24,000 miles out of them. I check the tire pressure weekly and rotate the tires every 5K to 6K miles. These tires ($585 for a set of four installed) are entirely too expensive given to be replaced given the care they have received. I strongly recommend you avoid these tires.

Terrible Tread Life
by doctorw ,Apr 12 '06
Pros: They are attractive tires. Cons: They do not last and may be dangerous.
I bought a set of Firestone Destination LE tires at Plaza Tire in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, March 2004. I complained about the rapid tread wear, but the salesman claimed it had to be my driving patterns. Upon a closer examination of the tires, I found that Plaza Tire had mismatched sizes on my Ford Explorer. On my truck are three P225/70R/102S tires and one correct P235/70R/104S tire. I have about 33,000 miles on these tires and the tread is worn down to the level that they MUST be replaced! Do not buy these tires. Make sure that the tires you buy match the recommended size in your owner's book or inside the driver's side door.
Update: I have purchased a new set of Yokohama Geolandar H/TS tires (April 2006)from Plaza Tire. They apologized for the improper sizing of the Firestone tires and gave me a discount on the new set. The reviews on epinions should be considered if you are looking for inexpensive SUV tires.

VERY UNSAFE TIRES... DUH... FIRESTONE...
by rance50 ,Sep 05 '05
Pros: decent ride, acceptable road noise Cons: firestone quality... unsafe at any speed... have never seen a tire come apart like that...
I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Escape that had a new set of Firestone Destination LE tires on it sized 225/70R15. while road noise wasn't bad and the ride was comfortable, I recently had the tread come completely off the sidewall while cruising 75 mph in the middle of nowhere. All that was left was my rim and the sidewalls, the tread came off in once piece and rolled on down the road. this was only after about 12,000 miles, all of them highway. Luckily my fiancee and I were safe and the plastic body armor on the lower half of the vehicle saved me hundreds of dollars worth of repairs. DO NOT BUY THESE TIRES. Upon reaching the next town, I replaced all four tires with Goodyear Wrangler 235/75R15 OWLs. Firestone has done nothing to repair their tarnished image in the wake of the Explorer fiasco a few years back. DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE OR THE LIFE OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE BY DRIVING ON THESE TIRES.

Firestone Destination LE Tire tread wear is bad.
by scootertn ,Mar 18 '07
Pros: Ok ride Cons: BAD BAD BAD BAD TREAD WEAR----------- TERRIBLE TERRIBLE-----
Hello.I have a 2001 Cheverlet Silverado Z71.This truck came with Firestone Wilderness tires, great tires had 55,000 when i took them off and replaced with the Firestone Destination LE.I put 25,000 on them and they are down to the wear bar. They ride and corner ok but tread wear sucks .I was told this was the replacement tire for The Wilderness tires that came on my truck.I would not buy this tire again they cost to much, to only get 25,000 miles out of a set.By the way my driving habits are slow in turns and no fast stops,so driving habits has nothing to do with bad tread wear.Firesone or Bridgestone tire dropped the ball on this Firestone Destination LE tire.STAY AWAY FROM THIS TIRE. scootert@frontiernet.net

Noisy
by tadler53033 ,Mar 02 '06
Pros: Smooth ride and handling Cons: Very noisy
I purchased a set of Destination LE's in Aug, 05. I now have about 10,000 miles on them. They have been fine from a traction and handling standpoint but they are the loudest tires I have ever had on a car or truck. Even a friend of my 8 y/o asked what was making so much noise. I drive an Explorer and plan on getting rid of these as soon as possible.

No Improvement in Firestone
by kjantz ,Nov 09 '05
Pros: Soft, Quiet ride. Cons: Uncomfortable feeling of lack of traction/control even in gentle curves and freeway exit speeds.
Just bought a set of Destination LE's for my Ford Explorer. Got rid of the origional Firestones with the fiasco. Let salesman talk me into the Destinations LE. Have put about 100 miles on them, and thank goodness I got a 30 day test drive period. They replaced Goodyear Fortera's which I didn't particularly like, but the Forteras felt solid. The Destinations feel as if the sidewall is "overflexing" even in gentle freeway turns at 70 mph and at exit speeds. They do ride softer than the Forteras & are quiet, but perhaps these attributes contribute to the feel of flexing. I had a set of Firestone Metric radials in the late 70's that kept coming apart on me; the fiasco with the Explorer Firestones; and now these. I notice one other reviewer lost tread on the Destinations at 12,000 miles. Definitely not recommended.

EXCELLENT TIRE!!!!!!!
by josh5pe ,Sep 11 '07
Pros: EXCELLENT TREADWEAR, GOOD ALL SEASON TRACTION, UNIFORM WEAR PATTERN FROM OUTSIDE TO INSIDE Cons: NONE
This was my second set of Tires in the past 7 Years. The first set were OEM Firestone Wilderness tires that were being put on the Explorers when they had all those rollovers. I loved the wilderness tires and they lasted for over the 60,000 miles. The current set are Destination LE and have lasted over 60,000 miles. The combined mileage out of both sets of tires is 135,976. You do the math. This tire is well worth the price. I drive mainly on road with occassional off road and winter driving. These tires have held up well. When purchasing a tire you should consider your driving habits rather than price. OH!! and I am not religious about rotating either, they wear fairly uniform. Tires are like tennis shoes, you don't wear combat boots to run in a marathon and an extremely heavy person will wear the same pair of shoes out quicker than a light person, shoes being the same.
