Great GPS, bluetooth
by kzamel ,Oct 10 '06
Pros: Very responsive GPS, recalculates routes in a second, Great bluetooth & screen
Cons: Hard to find vacant radio frequency for the FM transmitter but eventually works very well
EXCELLENT.. Great package. The GPS is very fast in acquiring the satellite and calculating routes. The screen is very bright and wide. I enjoyed making hands-free phone calls. My Sony T610 paired instantly with the NUVI 660 and transferred phone addresses as well. The FM transmitter was a little hard to adjust as it was not easy to find available FM frequency and when I find one it will later pick other channels after driving for few miles. Eventually I was able to make phone calls and listening to the callers on my car speaker system which was very good. I made several calls and no body actually thought I'm talking for a hand-free setup. WELL DONE GARMIN

Garmin support sucks, so device is worthless
by technonerd48 ,Jun 28 '08
Pros: It is portable so can be used outside of the car.
Cons: Very poor documentation, poorly trained and overwhelmed tech support.
This device really sucks when trying to install maps to Europe and support is a real PIA, 30-40 minute waits, rude support (I remained very polite) and then transfer, another wait for 30-40minutes and then get disconnected. Trying to update maps is a total nightmare, and there are 2 versions for updating European maps, and tech support gives 2 answers and I have 2 different versions NT and another for 2008 update. Documentation of the upgrade and choosing mapping areas is completely lacking via manual or online.

I faxed and emailed a letter to tech support. They didn't answer my questions, and the response was a week later. The product itself is good, but updating and documentation is atrocious, and unless you are planning never to updgrade your maps or use the device out of N. America, I would strongly urge one to reconsider. The amount of time spent on the phone with no results is mind boggling.

I am computer literate and not a technophobe

GREAT
by brokendra ,Jan 21 '07
Pros: Good photo quality, card slots, faxes, copies, networks
Cons: sometimes paper jams (but don't they all???)
This printer delivers everything it promises to. Darn good photo printing and the ink replacement isn't killer expensive since the color tank is one cartridge. I particularly like the card input slots on the front of the machine. The software that comes with it is also great. All in all, I got more than I paid for.

Does Garmin have a Customer Service?
by o-livier ,Jul 09 '08
Pros: Excellent products
Cons: Customer Service, unstable Map download update 09
Trying to reach Garmin for now a few WEEKS and having the most horrible experience trying to get someone to help with City Navigator (my GPS is all messed up since trying to update to 2009 map). No email address on their site, Average waiting time exceeding 30 minutes every time... No response to emails. My conclusion: just another company trying to shove you products and no customer service!!! Nice Job garmin

Great GPS...
by road_rage ,Mar 12 '07
Pros: Huge display Plays MP3's Bluetooth Bright screen
Cons: Transmits to stereo via FM and can get fuzzy/static'y Somewhat pricey for a portable
I bought this unit for my wife and she loves it. I purchased a 4GB SD card and filled with MP3's with can be piped into the car stereo via the built in FM transmitter. You just tune the radio to the station and you now have voice navigation through the car stereo and when not getting directions the MP3 is playing. I also paired with her Motorola RAZR using bluetooth, a call comes in and the mp3 player pauses and prompts on-screen that a call is coming in and even shows who it is using caller id and her phonebook on the phone, you can then answer hands free with audio over the stereo and built in mic. I was a bit skeptical as to how much she would use it, but she loves it and uses it daily. Because it is also portable, she takes it with her when going somewhere with a friend so not to get lost. Very impressed to the function and safety this has added to phone use in the car, entertainment value because of the mp3 player, and gps works well and does more then she would ever need. No regrets.

We love it!
by kmx3060 ,Jul 21 '07
Pros: Great screen and great features.
Cons: Need a more adaptable mount for different cars.
This is the most fun we have had in the car since we started driving. You can enter multiple destinations and then select from the list where to go to next. You can't enter a route that included the destinations but so what. Maybe you take a detour anyway and that is an option on this unit. Good reception and never dropped the satellite once. The bluetooth for the phone is going to make me legal in 2008 for handsfree calling. I give it a plus all around.

Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver
by jonl78 ,Apr 09 '07
Pros: Intuitive interface, spoken street names, multiple user settings and options, and extremely portable.
Cons: Not an inexpensive unit. Best if received as a gift!
I was given this as a gift, and was skeptical at first regarding its utility. A month later I'm a believer. The unit is easy to use, its interface is extremely intuitive. As a result, I'm finding that I'm using the system much more frequently than I would have thought. In addition, its portability allows me to bring it along when I travel to lesser known destinations.

great device
by tbonez ,Apr 04 '07
Pros: ease of use, maps and directions, size
Cons: bluetooth calling quality
With the price dropping, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Nuvi 360. The Nuvi is the third GPS that I have purchased since last November and it is far a away the best. The unit is simple to use and the travelling direction are precise and accurate. It is worth the money to spend more and buy a Nuvi. I have received complaints about the bluetooth calling. People that I have talked to using the hands-free calling told me it is hard to hear. The windshield suction mount fell off a few times before I cleaned the window. I would prefer a vent clip mount so the Nuvi is closer to me while driving.

Garmin Nuvi 660 - Best GPS you can buy
by cwaldman2 ,Jan 26 '07
Pros: Easy to use, screen, recites road names, no additional hookups for traffic, latest tech
Cons: Expensive
Replaced my old Garmin Street Pilot. First bought a Nuvi 660 for my son, who needed the traffic. After visiting him and seeing how well it worked got one for me. Best GPS unit I have seen. I have not used traffic yet (since no traffic reports where I am), but my son has seen traffic incidents, and he believes the Garmin automatically rerouted him around it (per a setting to do so). Also, have not used the Garmin’s blue tooth phone connection.

Pros: Very easy to use, 4.3 inch screen is great, fast, recites road names, do not need any additional hookups for traffic (electric plug to cigarette lighter acts as antennae), spell a few letters and finds places looking for, light, comes with US loaded, latest technologies are fast and accurate - SiRF Star III and WAAS enabled

Cons: Expensive, I have not found a way to view all of a selected type of item (e.g. restaurants, gas stations) on the screen

Garmin Nuvi 360
by mllykins ,May 23 '07
Pros: Battery life
Cons: Car charger
The Garmin Nuvi 360 is a good unit. I have used it many times and it is very accurate. The detour function is very handy and helpful. I live in the Chicago area and have used it on business trips with good success. I have not used the Bluetooth feature and MP3 player. It does have an issue with the time change that occurred in 2007.

Battery life is good, except if you change directions or have to take detours.

The car charger has failed twice in less than a year. It is the weakest part of the unit. Garmin has replaced both times. When it fails, the end of the charger that goes into the lighter splits in half. The pieces have fallen into the lighter and other places making it useless. Once this happens, you can not charge the unit. The only way to charge the unit is the charger for an electrical outlet.

All in all, excellent unit, except the car charger is poorly designed.

Best GPS there is...
by adalsania ,Oct 25 '06
Pros: Excellent navigation, widescreen, Traffic Receiver, Bluetooth, MP3 Player
Cons: FM transmitter static, utility of picture viewer?
Just received my Garmin Nuvi 660 today. After doing much research, I settled on the Garmin brand and especially this model. The 4.3" widescreen is phenomenal, and is easily viewable in the daylight with auto-dimming at night time. Like all Garmin products, the navigation is superb. I was able to lock onto a GPS signal rather quickly, although a cold boot takes about 30-35 seconds. The bluetooth works perfectly with my Razr V3, with call clarity quite acceptable on both ends. The traffic receiver works really well, it'll tell you if any traffic is building up in your route and automatically re-route you. Saved me lots of time already. The FM transmitter, although a good idea, tends to get a lot of static. I suppose you can search for a better FM station, but overall it works nicely. Finally, I know its kind of expensive, but you get what you pay for. Amazon.com did have it for $750 but they recently increased the price.

Excellent
by carpinteria ,Oct 17 '07
Pros: Easy to use right out of the box. Includes A/C charger and travel guide.
Cons: You can only have one destination and one in between, not multiple stops.
This unit was easy to use right out of the box. I've never owned a car GPS, and the Fodors chip (included) was simple to install. I have used this unit in both my cars, all across the U.S. and have not been disappointed. There have been a few places where it missed a fuel stop or so, and once it wanted me to turn onto a freeway where there was construction and the ramp no longer existed, but it recalculated immediately and got me onto it by another route. The other 99.9% of the time it's been right on. I don't have to worry about how much further to the next gas station when I realize I'm in the middle of the desert and about out of fuel. And when I'm hungry, I don't have to take exit after exit looking for something, then driving back onto the freeway. The touch screen is a snap, it tells me to turn on street names rather than just "in 200 ft turn left" (I can't tell 200 ft from a block).
All in all I love this thing.

Significant improvement over previous models
by berniekwan ,Sep 23 '07
Pros: Turn by turn navigation with street name. Fast recalculation. MP3 Player and Bluetooth.
Cons: Improve advance warning of turns while traveling high speed. Traffic Report grossly underestimate delays.
What a great navigator! Ease of use. Intuitive menus. Easy to navigate through different functions. I particularly like the fact that it will recalculate a new route each time you miss a turn without having to make a U-turn like the others. Turn by turn direction with street name. I have used the Garmin Streetpilot 2610, Tom Tom Go and the Magellan. Nothing come close to the functionality of this one. Blue tooth and the MP3 players are great features to have. I have done away with the iPod by using a 4GB SD card.

Great GPS but can be noise sensitive
by illesg ,Feb 03 '08
Pros: All the good stuff that Garmin is famous for
Cons: Noise sensitive, might need auxiliary antenna ($30)
The 660 we bought worked really great - until we turned on the ignition switch in our 2007 Volvo. Then the signal strength went to crap and the unit reported "Lost Satellite Reception".
Turns out the Volvo console puts out enough electrical interference to disrupt the weak GPS satellite signal (160dbm for those of you who care). An auxiliary antenna TOTALLY cured the problem, and the GPS works solid now. Didn't even have to mount the antenna externally, just up at the edge of the windshield a couple of feet away from the center console.
