A piece of junk
by sdeturris ,Jan 17 '07
Pros: none Cons: The print the fax and the scanner stink
Please save yourself time, money and frustration and do not buy this piece of junk. I just dumped mine in the garbage where it belongs. It constantly gives a jam message when nothing is jammed. The printer is slow...when it works, which is almost never. The fax and scanner will not work when the "jam message" is on. I spent countless hours on tech support trying to fix it.
Save yourself the aggravation.

Snow birds and printers.
by bogwood ,Jan 17 '07
Pros: 4 in one Cons: defaults to color mode, seems to malfunction if not used regularly
This printer carriage stopped functioning during the 6 month summer break.(Doesn't recognize the black ink cartridge).
The repair is more than a new printer. The repair shop has had more than one instance of similar malfunction. Consider another brand or extended warranty if intermittant use.

Same bad experience with cartridges/carriages on two 5610 printers
by tollandrcr ,Jul 31 '07
Pros: Cheap; easy setup; good print, fax, scanning, copying capabilities Cons: Breaks down for no apparent reason.
I've now gone through two HP 5610 all-in-one printers, bought as inexpensive print, fax, copy, and scan machines with color capabilities. Both failed, one with a cartridge error and one with a carriage jam. The local computer store told me to junk the first and then the second, and, if I wanted to stay cheap in front-end costs, buy a third 5610. Repair would cost more than a new machine. Or buy a better machine for more money, trashing the spare ink cartridges too. I bought the Canon Pixma 830M for not that much more. Another HP printer in my home office, the OfficeJet Pro K5400DN (the Staples model), just chugs along doing its job, which is to print color duplex cheaply, so I think the problem with the 5610 is specific to that machine. It is in its design, manufacturing, or maybe in the quality of parts. Most of the negative reviews here deal with exactly the same parts of the machine. Oddly, an inquiry to the HP CEO about the 5610 has gotten no reply. It is still sold on the HP Web site and in some computer stores, at a much-reduced price. A shame.

Great MultiFunction Printer for the Price
by jtshop ,Sep 29 '07
Pros: Great price
Easy to use
Performs multiple functions in one small unit. Cons: Picture printing quality could be better, but not bad
I purchased this unit about six months ago and have been thrilled with it so far. I have used all of the functions: scanning, faxing, printing, copying with great success. It is easy to use and so far has been great. It is a wonderful product for the price. I purchased it for $135 for my home use and just purchased another one for $99 for work. The color printing and photo printing is not fabulous, but it does the job fairly well.

Avoid this HP 5610!
by septvirgo ,Mar 08 '07
Pros: Low Price Cons: See above comments
This product is probably the worst product I have ever tried to install. The software doesn't install properly, causing more headaches and calls to customer support. The customer support people are nice, but they are very limited in what they can do to help. In the process of trying to remove an error message, while following the tech's advice, my HP computer froze and would not function in any way, making it necessary to use the recovery mode. Yuk!

Mac Users Beware!
by morselmama ,Jan 25 '07
Pros: None come to mind, unless you're in need of a rather large paperweight. Cons: No quality / color settings; defaults cannot be changed; will not print multi-page documents.
While this may be a acceptable all-in-one for Windows users, I would warn any Appleheads to avoid this machine at all costs. Simply doesn't work with Tiger or higher. HP Support professes that it is not their problem although a four-page support document addressing (but not solving) the issues can be found on their website.
Save yourself the heartache and look to someone other than HP!

Carriage drive issues, consider extended warranty
by suzieapples ,Feb 12 '08
Pros: Attractive packaging. The scanner has performed well. Cons: Broke after one year of light use.
Needed a copier/printer/scanner for a home office. I'm a student using it for school projects, husband prints out a few odds and ends. Not used in a heavy capacity. Exactly one year and a month after we purchased the HP Office jet 5610 All-in -One, the printer carriage stopped functioning fully. Color works, but it does not recognize the black ink cartridge.
My husband spent hours on line chatting with tech support, the end result...we have a fairly new machine sitting in the garage.
Big disappointment.

Installation false paper jam
by nadiavancloce ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: So far, so good. Cons: No others found yet.
I had the problem (reported by other reviewers here) of getting a false "paper jam" message during installation. It turned out the problem was that the ink cartridges were not properly snapped into place, and they prevented the carriage from moving.

Hardware problem, Awful tech support.
by f4rword ,Nov 06 '07
Pros: Printing of black and white text initially was good. Cons: Customer support is offshore. Clueless tech support.
Feedback: purchased this machine at Costco about a year ago. After six months it began dual printing anything that had color in it. For example, it would print the word "dog" like this "ddoogg". I called tech support twice and both times they were unable to help and attributed the problem to a "hardware issue."
It was clear to me the technicians were merely an offshore telephone outfit following a script.
In the end they recommended I upgrade to a new machine or bring the machine in for servicing. I cannot recommend this product.

Great value: solid buy
by winter_baby ,Oct 16 '07
Pros: Ease of use, overall fax, copy, scan and print quality. Cons: Lack of wireless/bluetooth/ethernet connectivity
I had an opportunity to try out the printer before buying during my visit to a out-of-town relative. And I liked it so much that I got one for myself when i returned home.
My only complaint is connectivity. It would been solid if the printer included either one of wireless, Bluetooth, or Ethernet. But it is still well worth for the money.

Piece of Crap!
by ohhbob ,Nov 13 '07
Pros: I guess it makes an attractive paperweight. Cons: Too many to mention - see review...
What a piece of Crap!! We used this unit only periodically, so I had changed the cartridges only once before this unit crapped out. Some sort of '0x' error message on the unit's front panel. HP has all sorts of reset codes & procedures to try to reboot the firmware, but it didn't matter.
In dealing with HPs' customer service and eventually being assigned to case managers, they pretty much told me I was crap-out-of-luck. Guy was kinda rude to me too, but that's another story.

A Great find for a Great Price!
by bettyboop27 ,Mar 26 '07
Pros: Great price, easy use! Cons: have not come across any at the moment.
I have always been very lucky with HP printers. This on is the same!
I have had not issues using any of the features!
I was very please with the ease of setting the printer up, installing the software and being able to use it right away. All of the features have controls on the keypad, I just follow the prompts and I am on my way.
Another great thing...the ink is not nearly as pricy as other printers!

HP scanning issue! Beware!
by stirrupm ,Mar 18 '07
Pros: faxes Cons: Have to spend a lot of time on the phone!
Software crashes when scanning multiple pages using a scan profile. Software crashes and you have to restart. Called HP multiple times only to have to repeat the issue with a new person even though I gave them the same case number every time. Eventually they sent me a CD with "updated" software. It was the same software that came with the system! The same CD! I also offered to send them any log files and they did not take me up on the offer. As I write this I am on the phone with tech support again. This is the 15th time! He says he is going to put me in touch with the research team. I am loosing confidence. Beware if you buy this!
