As suggested by its title, this album features Jerry Lee Lewis performing sixteen country songs in his inimitable freewheeling style. Recorded in Nashville between 1982 and 1984, the songs and performances on PRETTY MUCH COUNTRY are quite different from the highly produced country songs made by Lewis in the late sixties and early seventies. Recorded on a tight budget with a six-man band, these songs have an intimate, stripped-down sound that's perfectly suited for such broken hearted tales as "Honky Tonk Heaven" and "Come As You Were." Though these songs may lack some of the all-out excitement of Lewis' rock and roll hits, Lewis infuses these performances with plenty of energy and sings these songs as if he's ... |
