The WHERE THE HEART IS soundtrack follows the blueprint set down by 1998's soundtrack to HOPE FLOATS: take one chick flick, add some new cuts by country-pop artists, mix in some soft- and roots rock, and hope for an across-the-board smash. The latter soundtrack may have been a hodgepodge, but it did produce several hits, notably Garth Brooks' version of Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love." The hits are less evident on WHERE THE HEART IS, but they're here. The real find is Coley McCabe's "Grow Young with You"; McCabe's unique voice is pure country, and the song itself is pure joy, a giddy paean to love's power to make us feel immortal. Other highlights include "That's the Beat of a Heart," a lovely ballad from the Warren Brothers and Sara Evans, and Emmylou Harris' and Patty Griffin's ethereal "Beyond the Blue." Lyle Lovett and Lonestar contribute nice cover versions of the classics "What'd I Say" and "Only You," and there's some well-executed country pop from Martina McBride and 3 Of Hearts.
