Includes liner notes by Don Ovens. There are more comprehensive and better-sounding Eddie Cochran compilations out there, but if you're just looking for a budget-priced best-of, Curb Records' GREATEST HITS collection will do you just fine. Issued in 1990, probably to capitalize on the use of Cochran's hit "C'Mon Everybody!" in "Swing the Mood" by Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers, this 12-track set includes that classic, and Cochran's other three big hits--"Somethin' Else," "Twenty Flight Rock" and the immortal "Summertime Blues." There's also a seemingly random assemblage of other tracks including a cover of Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes" which unfortunately must bow not only to Perkins' definitive original but to Elvis Presley's better-known cover. If you're really interested in Cochran, try Razor and Tie's excellent SOMETHIN' ELSE: THE FINE-LOOKIN' HITS OF EDDIE COCHRAN, but this will do if you just want the hits. |
